With more than 20 albums and over 200 original compositions, Swedish pianist Mathias Landæus is one of Europe's most prominent jazz artists. "Improvised music is a deeply human activity," he says. "It helps us preserve our ability to think, feel and connect – especially in these times."
The Landæus Trio, which has been playing together for eight years, brings together three musicians: pianist Mathias Landæus, double bassist Johnny Åman and drummer Cornelia Nilsson. Nilsson, who used to listen to Landæus and Åman play as a student, is now one of the brightest young jazz stars in Scandinavia – her debut album with Aaron Parks earned her the prestigious Ben Webster Award in Denmark.
The trio embodies both the romanticism of Ornette Coleman and Bill Evans and the experimental spirit of Paul Bley and Messiaen. Their concerts have no set list – original works can be intertwined with jazz standards, pop…
