"BLUEPRINT"
EXPLORING LATVIA'S CONTEMPORARY JAZZ SCENE
Director Rihards Gēcis has created a short documentary film titled "Blueprint," which explores the emerging jazz scene in Latvia. The film artfully captures both the everyday lives of musicians off stage and their performances, thanks to the skilled cinematography of Toms Musts.
Documentary includes highlights from the popular concert series "Brooklyn Jazz," which was nominated for the public media award "Kilogram of Culture." In these concerts, saxophonist Kārlis Auziņš pays tribute to John Coltrane, pianist Toms Mikāls focuses on Thelonious Monk, and trumpeter Reinis Puriņš honors the musical legacy of Miles Davis. The voiceover for the film is provided by Mikus Solovejs, and the producer is Maija Moira Mazanova.
'"I have been following the active cultural life of 'M/House of Jazz' for some time and realized that there is historical material right before our eyes and ears," says director Rihards Gēcis.
"The 'Jersika Records' label has captured some of this in audio recordings, releasing the best on vinyl. However, I chose to create video recordings. As a result, we produced a rich short documentary film that aims to capture the unique spirit of this time, serving as a testament to future generations about the Latvia's contemporary jazz scene.
