A CONCERT DEDICATED TO ONE OF THE GREAT NAMES IN JAZZ HISTORY—THE SAXOPHONIST CHARLIE PARKER.

Vocalist Paula Saija paid tribute to him in the seventh concert of the "Brooklyn Jazz" series at the cultural venue M/Darbnīca. This time, the legendary figure was honored alongside the music of Dizzy Gillespie. Their iconic collaboration was brought to life by saxophonist Toms Rudzinskis, trumpeter Reinis Puriņš, pianist Edgars Cīrulis, bassist Jurijs Natsvlišvili, and drummer Jānis Jaunalksnis. Held on August 10, the concert was also a rare chance to hear Jaunalksnis perform in Latvia, as he is usually based in Switzerland. Before the performance, we spoke with Toms Rudzinskis about Parker’s legacy, personality, and musical language—the “wild West” of his time and its resonances in today’s world. Sound engineer: Kristaps Ruņģis. Post-production: Mārtiņš Krastiņš.
