About the Event

With eclectic sounds from Nordic Jazz, modern French and German harp music, through melodies, cinematic textures and improvisations. The trio ventures into an imaginative universe, with an allusion to Greek-Roman mythology, featuring visuals by Ukrainian director Svitlana Zemliana. Sound and image create mythopoetic audiovisual expression, inspired by what's hidden in the apparent, pristine and lucent.

Audun Aschim Steffensen (NO) guitar/composer Hanna Rabe (DE) harp Øystein Aarnes Vik (NO) drums,

Svitlana Zemliana (UKR) visuals and lyrics Kate Pendry (UK/NO) voice/narrator

Guitarist Audun Aschim Steffensen and his acoustic trio consisting of harpist Hanna Rabe and drummer Øystein Aarnes Vik unite their respective disciplines into a unique chamber musical expression and a shared palette of expression between jazz, classical and contemporary music.

"Mythos" is the title of the concert production that follows the trio on tour - with the same name as their debut album (Smeik Records) with multimedia and pre-recorded text. The music on the album is the basis for the audiovisual concert, and received great reviews when it was released in 2019.

The concert "Mythos" combines the music with texts written by the Ukrainian director and literary critic Svitlana Zemliana - who also created the visuals. An audiovisual expression that play with a modern mythopoetic perspective based on Greek-Roman mythology, seen through the eyes of the writer and the musicians. The pre-recorded text is narrated by Kate Pendry.

The ensemble will play 13 concerts in Norway, Lithuania and Latvia in October and November.

“Mythos” represents Nordic jazz, with sounds from modern French and German harp music, thematic ideas from avant-garde theatre and atmospheres inclination towards film music. The trio enters a musical landscape which belongs on its own terms. Everything is communicated with a strong dramaturgical mental image, along with influence from acoustic chamber music.
